Apple has finally listened to the people, some of them at least, and released the 4-inch iPhone SE.
This past Monday at an event held at their headquarters in California, Apple announced the release of the SE, a 9.7-inch iPad Pro and a lower-priced Apple Watch.
The SE sports a 4-inch screen as well as a 64-bit A9 chip and a 12MP camera. It’s the first 4-inch iPhone since the 5s and 5c. The 6 on have been 4.7 inches or bigger. This new offering was in response to a number of users’ chief complaint that the newer phones were just too big.
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, explained, “I am extremely excited about the iPhone SE – many, many customers have asked for this and I think they are going to love it.”
In fact, just last year 30 million bought 4-inch iPhones showing a real demand. My guess is we’ve got about 30 million iPhone users with tiny hands and super sharp vision. Sure, when I graduated to the iPhone 6 I had to get used to the size but after a while I found the screen size a definite plus.
Screen size isn’t the only draw for customers, the phone goes for a mere $399 for the 16GB or $499 for 64GB. That’s $250 less than the 6S and $50 less than the 5S which this phone aims at replacing.
The iPhone SE will be available in silver, space gray, gold and rose gold.
The iPhone is not the only thing happening in “tiny Apple product news”, Apple also announced the significantly reduced 9.7-inch iPad Pro. This is down from the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that was released just this last year.
Again this is due to demand as Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller, explained, “We have sold over 200 million iPads with a 9.7-inch display size.” That makes the 9.7-inch tablet their most popular screen size.
The new iPad has an A9x processor as well as a 12MP camera. They’ve even thrown in a little bonus feature in the form of True Tone display which automatically adjusts color by measuring ambient light.
You’ll be able to pick up one of these bad boys for $599 (32GB), $749 (128GB) or $899 for a surprising 256GB version.
It comes in space gray, gold, rose gold and silver.
There wasn’t too much news on the Apple Watch front but they did reveal new woven nylon bands as well as lower pricing for the Apple Watch. It now starts as low as $299.
Both the iPhone SE and the new iPad Pro will be available for pre-order on March 24th with devices rolling out on March 31st.
