Sony Ulta HD TV ReviewRemember when the image on your television would go fuzzy, and the standard solution was to bang on the top or adjust the rabbit ears?  If that didn't work a swift kick in the side might do it. God forbid Dad thinks he can unscrew the back and figure out what's wrong. Well that was yesteryear and here we are today with Sony having just announced their new line of crisp 4K Sony Ultra HD TVs that at their slimmest point are tinier than your iPhone 6 or really any smartphone, making it the slimmest LED TV in the world. That's .2 inches if you were wondering – which is 1.1 inches slimmer than the iPhone 6.

The TV has a vanishing edge so it's just “screen” from edge to edge, no real visible frame. I swear, this has to be the last step before we're just watching floating images.

The Sony Ultra HD TVs (that's “ultra” because it stomps on the pitiful quality of regular HD) range from a 43” to 75” screen, all the way up to a 180” screen made possible by their new 4K projector. This is all part of their master plan to dominate every conceivable living or working space imaginable.

Beyond the obvious dimensional specs these TVs are powered by the new X1 processor engine allowing clarity unlike any earlier Sony model, or really any TV for that matter.

There will be 6 TVs released in what's called the “X” series line, each with Android TV built right into it as part of Sony's deal with Google. Android TV, announced last June, is Google's solution to the Smart TV platform currently dominated by products like Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV. This will allow consumers to watch Netflix, Amazon Instant, Hulu, Youtube and a number of other streaming apps directly through their TV without the need for a separate digital media player. Users will be able to use the innate voice command feature of Android TV straight through their TV and, if they have Google Cast, they'll be able to stream video through apps like HBO GO right from their phone or computer to their TV, their version of AirPlay.

The cheapest Sony Ultra HD TV, the 43”, will go for $1299.99 but if you're the high-roller type they'll have a $7999.99 TV just for you. They're available for pre-sale today at store.sony.com with a May release.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go bang on my 1995 Sony TV/VCR combo set. It keeps acting up and I'm trying to watch Blossom.
