Apple announced that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus sales exceeded 13 million over the weekend, blowing away any previous opening weekend. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, had this to say, “Sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history.”
That factor is: China sales have been included in this year’s figures. Last year’s sales did not. While the China number hasn’t been released it’s estimated to be around 2 million plus. If that number is in any way accurate then it still means iPhone numbers are up. See? I’m not trying to be a bummer; just putting everything in perspective.
Next, Apple plans on releasing the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in more countries on October 9th with the goal of over 130 countries by year end.
The 6s models have upped the bar on what an “s” series iPhone can be. With the new 3D touch technology there are a number of new and cool features all dependent on the force applied to the screen.
Going even further, the camera and photos have been given a sweet upgrade. 4k video and 12MP photos are just a couple of them not to mention Live Photos.
Oh and let’s not forget the ability to now take selfies in the dark with Retina Flash. To be honest though, I don’t know if this feature is a blessing or a curse.
So whether this year’s opening weekend numbers is a true comparison over last year’s or not, the point is Apple continues to dominate with no signs of slowing down.
