Everyone who owns a drone these days knows very well how delicate they are and how careful you must be while flying them around any object. This makes flying a drone indoors almost impossible. But what if we tell you that there is new drone which is designed specifically for collision and to explore tight indoor spaces!
Meet ‘Gimball’, a drone that is shaped like a ball and can fly anywhere you can possibly imagine. Developed by a start-up company called ‘Flyability’, this product will set to hit the market very soon.
This drone is placed in a spherical case and it has two easily rotatable axis inside. The camera is put on the inner axis and it doesn’t feel any shock that is absorbed during collision with other objects.
When flying inside a building, it doesn’t try to avoid obstacles like walls, ceilings, etc. as traditional drones do, but instead Gimball uses the obstacles to find its way around. How smart is that! It can run over a wall until it can find a window or door to get out.
According to its creators, this drone is very easy to operate and very safe around humans. Our traditional drones certainly lack that with their high-speed rotating blades.
The major uses of this drone will be for the investigating industrial facilities, highway and railway tunnels, search and rescue operation by firefighters and emergency teams, and also by law enforcement forces by sending them in high risk zones beforehand to get valuable insights.
Certainly this will provide us with a great alternative which is quick, economic and safer than sending humans into crumbling buildings destroyed after earthquake or in warzones.
With its HD camera in its rotating camera stand, it is very stable while taking videos and claims to take close-up shots as well. Those close up photos can show the engineers cracks and defects in buildings and structures with high level of detail where they cannot reach easily, making their job much easier and safer.
According to the CEO of Flyability, it is the first drone that can interact with its environment and humans can interact with it by touching and moving it from any side. They are planning to launch this device very soon to the market for commercial use at an affordable price.
