The highly-anticipated iPhone X is now available for pre-order. For those who love iPhones this is a joyous occasion in which they’ll finally be able to order the most innovative design of Apple’s flagship phone since the 1st gen.
For iPhone haters this is also a joyous day as they get to sit back and watch as Apple actively destroys everything they’ve built by completely reinventing the wheel on smartphones. To them, this is complete corporate suicide and a terrible move on Apple’s part. Of course, this is in the eyes of people who just like to watch the world burn.
Well, if the initial demand for pre-orders is any indication, the iPhone X is already pretty popular. The initial supply sold out almost immediately as Apple scrambles to make more available. New sales are already backordered close to two months out.
“We are thrilled to be taking orders for iPhone X, the future of the smartphone. We can see from the initial response, customer demand is off the charts,” an Apple statement read. “We’re working hard to get this revolutionary new product into the hands of every customer who wants one, as quickly as possible. We will keep accepting orders online, and iPhone X will be available at Apple retail stores on Friday, November 3 starting at 8 a.m., as well as from our carrier and retailer partners around the world.”
Your best bet at this point is to order directly from carriers as opposed to Apple itself. In other words, order from AT&T, etc. if Apple is proving futile.
The initial supply was expected to be less than the usual iPhone release with plenty of slowdown on the manufacturing end of things. With major changes to the design and OLED screens ordered from Samsung with a special notch cut out, this is to be expected.
There was a rumor floating around a couple days ago based on a Bloomberg article that stated that Apple authorized the accuracy of the Face ID to be reduced in order to meet these pressing production demands. Apple, of course, is now refuting this claim.
“Bloomberg’s claim that Apple has reduced the accuracy spec for Face ID is completely false and we expect Face ID to be the new gold standard for facial authentication,” Apple said in a statement.
It would be total suicide to reduce the quality of this major feature on which the success of the iPhone X relies on. So I don’t really buy that they’re going to gamble with the quality of the specs just to meet some production demands. That would be unwise.
Well, this is nothing if not exciting. I can’t wait to get my hands on the iPhone X and take this bad boy for a spin. One thing’s for sure, it’ll either be a complete success or complete failure. Either way, I’m here for the show.
