Keep Your Plants Alive with Plant Hero

By: Nick Gambino

Keeping plants alive inside my home has proven a futile task and at 32 years old I don’t see myself magically developing a green thumb. It’s not that I don’t like plants or don’t put in the effort to water them, it’s just that I’m no good at it.

Thankfully I’m not the only one suffering from this “affliction.” Some people just don’t have the knack for it. So short of never living with vegetation ever again, what can we plant killers do about it?

There’s a Kickstarter campaign that seeks to solve this problem. As described in their campaign, Plant Hero is the “no-green-fingers-required” solution to growing strong, healthy plants. The idea behind the design is to create a portable setting where plants are watered naturally as they would in nature.

It seems the #1 cause of dead plants is overwatering or under-watering. As someone who has no idea what they’re doing, I’d be inclined to overwater my plants or forget to water for a few days. Plant Hero takes all of that effort or missed effort out of the equation. In a nutshell, it’s an automatic irrigation system that mimics a plant’s natural water cycle and absorption pattern, removing any guesswork.

While with a normal potted plant you’d have to make sure to water it once a day or two, with Plant Hero you’re looking at a once-a-month watering cycle – that’s about equal to watering your plant just 12 times a year!

Plant Hero makes this possible by combining the simple and smart design of its self-watering planter with using a ceramic medium in place of soil. This unique clay is a perfect deterrent to overwatering while boosting hydration and nutrient absorption. It also means no mess, no pests.

The ergonomic design makes for easy removal and refill. And because it’s a natural system, it doesn’t require any power, saving you on your electric bill.

And if all that’s not enough, they intend to appeal to the DIY spirit in you. Each Plant Hero set comes with white pebbles (which prevent mosquito breeding) for decorating as well as the space to add other decorations as you see fit.

If you’d like to get your hands on this unique plant-saving system head over to Kickstarter and help get this puppy off the ground. All future unborn house plants will thank you for it.
