We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Everything’s going electric. This is no more true than in the auto industry. With the success of Tesla, every major automaker in the world has jumped on the electric vehicle bandwagon, either releasing or planning to release their own EV.

Mercedes-Benz just announced their newest EV offering, the EQS SUV. This will be their first electric SUV, after having just released their EQS sedan. A big selling point of this new Mercedes-Benz EV is its range.

One of the problems EVs have struggled with is their range. While charging up is cheaper and in a way more convenient, only snagging 150-200 miles on a single charge can play hell on any road trips you’re planning on taking. This is one of the reasons Tesla has dominated in this sphere – they offer long-range vehicles.

My Tesla Model Y gets a purported 330 miles on a full charge. In actuality, it doesn’t end up getting that much because everything runs off the battery, including A/C, but it still isn’t too far off the miles I get out of my VW Tiguan. In a four- or five-hour road trip across multiple states, I probably have to charge up twice. With Tesla Superchargers everywhere, this isn’t too difficult.

The new EQS SUV has an estimated range of 373 miles, which is better than both the Tesla Model Y and the Model X (332 miles). Again, Tesla has the Supercharger network, which is ever-growing, making it still the better option. They charge faster and really are everywhere.

If you can set up a charger at home, then the EQS SUV and its longer range isn’t a bad idea. With Elon Musk announcing that they’re working on opening up the Supercharger network to other non-Tesla EVs in the near future, this will be a game-changer for charging.

In addition to long-range, the Mercedes Benz EQS SUV has seating for seven passengers and the expected taller frame that comes with SUVs. The 56-inch curved horizontal Hyperscreen looks pretty sexy in the photos they’ve released. It includes three separate screens including a 12.3-inch passenger screen, 17.7-inch infotainment screen in the center, and a 12.3-inch gauge display for the driver.

As you might have guessed, the EQS SUV won’t be cheap. They haven’t released any pricing info yet, but you can bet that it’ll be north of $100,000.
