England are one of many countries getting excited for the World Cup this winter in Qatar. However, there are only a certain amount of spaces on the plane taking them off to the Middle East to hopefully bring home the World Cup for the first time since 1966.
With the last international break next week and Gareth Southgate announcing his squad, there have been some notable omissions and inclusions. So who is expected to be travelling to Qatar especially with England one of the favourites to win the competition; according to NewBettingSites UK.
Who will certainly be travelling?
Since Southgate took over as England manager in 2016 he has developed certain favourite players he feels he can trust with his system and who will give him exactly what he wants. Southgate is not a firm believer in dropping players he trusts even if their club form would suggest that they should be dropped from playing international football.
Southgate will more than likely pick certain players that he has taken to previous tournaments specifically the 2018 World Cup where England impressively made it to the semi-final. These players will include captain Harry Kane, forward Raheem Sterling, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, defenders Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Harry Maguire and John Stones.
All these players also played in the 2020 Euros where England made the final. However, from the last tournament, Southgate has added Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips to players he trusts.
All of these players will certainly make the England squad.
Who will more than likely make the England squad?
The recent squad announcement will give England fans a good indication of who Southgate believes will fire England to glory. With a few England players from his last Euros squad included they will more than likely be included in the 26 man squad.
Players such as the Manchester City duo Phil Foden and Jack Grealish will certainly be there, Bukayo Saka, Reece James, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Jude Bellingham.
With previously trusted player Eric Dier making a return to the latest squad he could be a versatile option for Southgate.
Who will be expecting to make up the rest of the squad?
With 26 spaces available, England players such as Fikayo Tomori, James Ward-Prowse, Conor Coady, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell and Tammy Abraham will be expecting to make the squad with ease.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will be included if he can prove his fitness due to his experience.
Who could be sweating on a place?
With the omissions of Manchester United stars Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford from the latest squad, they could be missing out on a winter of success with their country. The same can be said about players who made the Euro 2020 squad like Tyrone Mings and Domonic Calvert-Lewin.
However, there are players hoping to prove themselves on the international stage. Inclusions in this squad that will be hoping to have the opportunity to impress Southgate are Marc Guehi, Jarrod Bowen and Ivan Toney.
With three goalkeepers expected to be taken, there will be a battle between Nick Pope and Dean Henderson as to who will be the final keeper to be taken.
