Tesla Delivers First Cybertrucks

By: Nick Gambino

The wait is over, at least for a special few who received delivery of their Tesla Cybertruck at an event on Thursday held at the company’s headquarters in Austin, TX.

“What we have here is better than a truck, while also being a better sports car than a sports car in the same package,” Elon Musk said at the Tesla event.

That perfectly sums up what the Tesla CEO was looking to do with the unique Cybertruck. He wasn’t just trying to create yet another pickup truck. He was trying to create a new type of utility vehicle that looked like the future. Or at least like a future imagined in 80s action flicks.

After delivering the EVs to the lucky new owners, Tesla issued the specs of the long-awaited Cybertruck. Like other Tesla models, there are multiple options to choose from.

Cyberbeast

This is the top-of-the-line and most expensive Cybertruck that will cost you over $96,000. It’ll take you 0-60 in a whopping 2.6 seconds with a top speed of 130 MPH. Despite its hefty price tag, this guy doesn’t have the longest range of all the models, only clocking in at 320 miles. It’s also unclear how much that goes down depending on the size of the payload you’re hauling. You can tow as much as 11,000 lbs. Outside of what’s already been delivered at the event, the Cyberbeast will be out for delivery in 2024.

All-Wheel Drive

This is your mid-range Cybertruck priced somewhere around $69,000. This one will get you 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and tops out at 112 MPH. It’s got the most range out of all the Tesla truck models at 340 miles. It’s capable of towing up to 11,000 miles just like the Cyberbeast. And just like the Cyberbeast, the AWD vehicle will be ready to deliver in 2024.

Rear-Wheel Drive

This is the least impressive of the three EV trucks and also the one we have barely any information about. Its estimated cost is just under $50,000 once it’s finally ready for delivery in 2025. That makes this more of a budget Cybertruck. It’ll go 0-60 in 6.5 seconds which is almost 2 seconds slower than the base Model Y. It only has a range of 250 miles which, again, may go down depending on how much you’re towing. The website doesn’t provide any information on the towing capabilities of this rear-wheel model.

After years of delays, the Cybertruck is finally here, bulletproof glass and everything. We’ll have a better idea of how this EV truck performs once more of them hit the road in the new year.
