AI is About to Make Siri Smarter

By: Nick Gambino

With the release of Apple Intelligence, iPhones have gotten a real shot in the arm. Apple’s proprietary AI working across apps and other functions of the smartphone has opened up a whole world of possibilities.

Now with a reported upcoming iOS 18.4 beta, we’ll see a much smarter Siri. The veteran digital assistant will get some much needed help from Apple Intelligence, allowing her to access a ton of new data and information.

Siri has been pretty limited for years. She’s been able to help retrieve information from the internet and call up some basic features of the iPhone simply by asking her to, but hitting the proverbial wall has been all too common an occurrence.

The introduction of an AI model to Siri’s repertoire means she can use your own data and preferences to provide an answer or response. This was promised when Apple Intelligence was announced.

“With an all-new design, richer language understanding and the ability to type to Siri whenever it’s convenient for you, communicating with Siri is more natural than ever,” Apple said in a page dedicated to Apple Intelligence. “Equipped with awareness of your personal content, the ability to take action in and across apps, and product knowledge about your devices’ features and settings, Siri will be able to assist you like never before.”

Reportedly Siri will not become an AI chatbot or assistant in and of herself. She will merely tap into Apple Intelligence to perform her duties. Siri most likely won’t even match up to the new AI Alexa we reported on last week.

If I had to venture a guess, I’d say her days are limited. As Apple Intelligence becomes more popular and capable, they’ll phase out Siri and replace her with a new AI assistant. Maybe they’ll call it sArI. (Yes, I’m sure there are a million better names they can go with.)

The iOS 18.4 beta with a smarter Siri is expected within the week. It might even be released by the time this article is published.
