RPG Fable Reboot Delayed Again

By: Nick Gambino

Fable is one of the most popular original titles that Xbox has under their studio umbrella. That means a reboot of the video game is a no-brainer. But that also means the pressure is on to deliver and with pressure, comes delays.

Microsoft has announced that the new Fable has been delayed until some time in 2026. This is after promising that the reboot would be released in 2025.

“We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025,” the head of Xbox Game Studios, Craig Duncan, said in the Official Xbox Podcast. “We are actually going to give Fable more time and it’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it’s definitely worth the wait.”

To hold fans over, Microsoft released a teaser video of gameplay so that fans can get an idea of what to expect when the title officially launches. The visuals are all pre-alpha so who knows what it’ll look like when we finally get to play it.

In the video, you’ll see a bunch of action and combat and even the popular chicken kicking gag that the video game franchise is known for. It looks pretty sweet which makes sense if you consider how long we’ve been waiting for another main Fable title.

The last installment, Fable 3, was released way back in 2010. That’s about a million years in gameplay advancements. Visuals and technology have come a long way in 15 (16 once the game is released) years.

We don’t have an official date yet on Fable’s release, just that it will be some time in the 2026 calendar year. That’s not too heartening as a loose date like that suggests they don’t really know when it’s going to be ready. They originally announced the new installment in 2020. On the bright side, with all these delays, they might wind up with some unintended viral promotion.

Cue the GTA 6 memes.
