Alexa is Hiding Hunger Games and Adele Easter Eggs

By: Nick Gambino

Amazon Echo’s resident virtual assistant, Alexa, is hiding some sweet Adele and Hunger Games Easter eggs. Though many of you might own an Echo these hidden Easter eggs are easily overlooked as they require certain questions mockingjayasked by you.

In honor of the new and final installment in the Hunger Game franchise, Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, if you say to Alexa, “Alexa, happy Hunger Games,” she will respond with the popular movie line, “May the odds be ever in your favor.”

These Easter eggs serve little purpose other than to just be amusing. Much like the numerous other pop culture references she has in her arsenal like Star Wars (try, “Alexa, I am your father.”), Monty Python and Ghostbusters.

Alexa isn’t the only assistant who’s up on her references, Siri and Cortana have a few hidden gems, Siri especially. You can of course Google what they all are or do as I have for the last 15 hours straight and read her lines from every movie starting from 1975 on to see which she knows. I have no life.

Or if you want a little more substance you can try, “Alexa, I am the Mockingjay.” She’ll respond with this sweet ode to the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Like Plutarch said, ‘While you live, the revolution lives.’”

Now, for you Adele fans out there in honor of her new album, 25, and her arrival back on the scene (she broke records, selling 3.38 million copies of 25 in her first week, obliterating the earlier record-holder, ‘NSync) Alexa has jumped on the Adele bandwagon.

If you say, “Alexa, hello, it’s me,” a nod to the line from the new hit single from Adele, Hello, she’ll say any one of the following:

“Hello, it’s me. I so wish I could sing like Adele.”

“I must’ve called a thousand times. I hope you’re as excited for Adele’s new album as I am.”

“I was wondering if after all these years, you’d like to meet. I can’t stop singing along to Adele.”
