Top 5 Things to Expect at CES 2016

By: Nick Gambino

CES 2016 is fast approaching. In fact, it’s less than a week away. NewsWatch will be on the ground in Las Vegas covering the blow by blow of everything new and exciting in the tech world. From emerging trends to products and news, we’ve got you covered.

To prepare you for what’s to come we’ve put together a list of the top 5 things to expect at CES, a list of things that we’re particularly excited about. So let’s get into it.

  1. HTC Vive VR – Major Breakthrough

HTC has been furiously working on the development of their own Virtual Reality headset, the HTC Vive. Like most VR products we’ve been anxiously awaiting their launch.

Recent images of the redesigned headset hit the internet and showed a pretty rad looking product. CEO Cher Wang announced that the HTC and Valve team has made a “very, very big technological breakthrough” and would be announcing just what that breakthrough is at CES.

  1. A new FitBit?

James Park, CEO of FitBit, has scheduled a press conference on January 5th at the show. He announced that there would be “some exciting news that is sure to ignite the world of health and fitness in 2016.”

So either this will be a new and innovative FitBit or FitBit has started designing and manufacturing lighters. (Bad joke, I’ll be the first to admit it.)

  1. Kia debuting their autonomous driving program

CES is the platform chosen by Kia to reveal their unique self-driving program. They recently announced that they were approved to begin testing self-driving technology on public roads in the state of Nevada.

We’ll be looking to see what’s different about this program and whether or not it stands a chance against the numerous others working on this innovative new tech. They are scheduled for a press conference on January 5th.

  1. Streaming is kind of a big deal

Both YouTube and Netflix will represent at CES with their own keynote addresses. On January 7th CEO of Netflix Reed Hastings will be taking the stage to discuss his plan to take Netflix global by 2016’s end.

Robert Kyncl, the Chief Business Officer of YouTube, will be delivering his keynote the following day, January 8th.

As the two leading streaming giants (that has a nice ring to it doesn’t it?) we’re sure to hear some great things from both.

  1. TVs, TVs, TVs

CES has been notorious for the site where leading electronic companies bring their new and improved TVs, each one trying to outshine the next guy. Basically it’s where Sony, Samsung, LG, etc. pull out their you-know-whats and a ruler.

Not saying that’s a bad thing, it means we get to bare witness to some truly bad-ass TVs that push the boundaries of what we thought was possible.

Look out for 8K TVs, OLED TVs being offered by more brands and just anything that can be categorized under “more” and “bigger.”

So there you have it. The top 5 things we’re excited about at CES 2016.

Sound off on the comments below, let us know if we missed something that should be included in the list. Also let us know if there’s a booth you’d like us to highlight while we’re there.
