If you work in any job outside of Sports Journalism there’s a good chance you’re going to miss some key NCAA basketball games while you’re at work. But don’t worry we have some ideas on how you can fill your March Madness prescription by watching March Madness at work.
Let’s start with an idea that’s less than sneaky. If you work in a small business or have a good rapport with the boss, you might be able to convince him or her to allow the games to play on the TV in the background while you work. This isn’t unheard of.
You may have to feed your boss some line about how this will increase employee morale or how you always put in longer hours and can be trusted to get your job done. If this is true it’ll only aid in pleading your case.
But if after your groveling and slick talk, your boss doesn’t budge and decides to be a March Madness Grinch then other more desperate measures must be taken.
Lucky for you in the age of technology this is almost easier done than said. As a disclaimer, in reading and following through with my suggestions in this article you absolve me of any responsibility for loss of job or docked pay. I mean, c’mon, why are you listening to me? You don’t even know me.
Alright, let’s take a look at some apps to aid you in your sneaky endeavor.
If you have a TV provider like Verizon Fios or DirecTV the free March Madness Live app is the best place to watch the games live. Even if you don’t have a TV provider there are a few games that air on CBS that you can watch.
Long bathroom breaks and under-the-desk viewings are the best way to keep your eyes on the game. Just try to keep the cheering to a minimum because…you know…the boss.
This app is available on iOS, Amazon Fire, Windows and Android devices. It’s an easy way to watch March Madness at work.
The CBS Sports app allows you to watch games that air on CBS. The CBS Sports Radio feature is great if you don’t feel you have to watch the game but are fine with just listening to it. This works especially if you’re allowed to have headphones on while at work. Loopholes, people.
It’s available for iOS and Android. And while it may not let you watch March Madness at work, it’ll at least let you stay up to date on all your favorite games.
Speaking of listening to games, the TuneIn app will allow you access to free sports radio like CBS Radio and ESPN.
You can download the TuneIn app on iOS and Android devices. Again, it’s not going to let you watch March Madness at work, but it’ll do in a pinch.
Sling TV is an alternative to those who want to watch march madness at work for games that appear on TNT, TBS and truTV but don’t want to pay for a cable subscription. It costs $20 a month so probably isn’t worth it unless you’re already a subscriber.
It doesn’t include CBS games, so again, this isn’t the best option unless you’re already subscribed.
Quick ninja-like reflexes are a must especially if you’re trying the under-the-desk method. A quick, “What? I was only brushing some lint off my lap!” might be in order if the boss wanders by.
Let us know if there are any apps or ideas we missed on how to watch March Madness at work.
