The Nintendo Switch 2 has been teased for a while now, but we haven’t gotten anything concrete from the company itself as to what to expect or if it’s even real. That is, until now. Nintendo just dropped an official trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2.

While there’s not a ton of info on the specs, the main thing the successor to the popular handheld-console hybrid promises is that it’s going to be bigger. The screen will be bigger thanks to slimmed-down, beveled edges and the Joy Con controllers are also increasing in size proportinately.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will play not only new games designed for the device, but it will be back compatible, allowing players to use a lot of their games from the Nintendo Switch. Now, there are some titles that won’t work, but there’s no word on exactly which ones.

Outside of the trailer and some rehashed info from the video on their site, Nintendo is not telling us a lot about the Switch 2. You’d have to pour over the trailer to glean any other information such as what new ports are being added. At least Nintendo showed off the newest iteration of Mario Kart which, of course, looks awesome. They intend to fully unveil the device at the Nintendo Direct event on April 2.

One thing we know for sure is the Nintendo Switch 2 is arriving in 2025. The end of the trailer makes that very clear. But whether that means it’ll arrive in time for Christmas or right after the April 2 presentation, we don’t know. They haven’t even put it on pre-order yet.

This will be the first big change to the popular console-handheld video game system since its release in 2017. In that time, it’s proved to be their second most successful system ever, slightly behind the Nintendo DS. But 8 years is a long time for very little upgrade. This should situate the Switch firmly at the top of the mountain for another couple years.
