WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) 2025 kicks off in just a couple weeks. The annual event serves as a platform for Apple to show off the newest and coolest from upcoming software releases.
This is famously where we get a look at the next iOS coming to your iPhone. At WWDC25 on Monday, June 9th we’ll almost certainly see what they have in store for iOS 19.
The rumblings on the rumor line suggest we might get a huge design overhaul in iOS 19. In fact, some trusted sources are saying this is going to be the biggest design change since iOS 7. For those of us who were around for that release in 2013, we remember how different it was.
Apple got rid of the skeuomorphic icons and graphics that made buttons, etc. look more real and rounded as they would be in real life. For example, the calculator app buttons bumped out like those of a real calculator. In iOS 7, they got rid of that design completely and opted for flat icons and buttons like we have today.
While we don’t know exactly what this redesign will look like, it promises to be “slicker and more modern” according to Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg. This would make sense if they’re looking to unify all of their hardware products. The new Vision Pro has a different design feel and I wouldn’t be surprised if they align the iPhone, iPad and Mac with their mixed reality headset.
Apple Intelligence may have stumbled coming off the starting line, but there’s no way they won’t talk about it. They’ve committed to the AI so they’re going to have to insert it into everything to prove that commitment. I expect more integration announcements.
Traditionally, Apple ships a beta version of the new mobile operating system on the first day of WWDC. This allows developers to get their hands on it and start testing and sending feedback so Apple can tinker with it all the way up to the official release alongside the next iPhone, in this case iPhone 17. This isn’t a public beta but instead is reserved for developers who opt in early.
In addition to iOS 19 we’ll also get a glimpse into the upcoming iPadOS 19 and macOS 16 for the iPad and Mac computers respectively. We should also get betas for both OSes the same day as iOS 19, most likely the first day of WWDC, June 9th.
