PlayStation just launched a new beta that allows gamers to gain early access to upcoming titles and updates on existing games.
The Beta Program at Playstation, as it’s called, runs on both PS5 and PC. After users sign up and get approved they’ll be given the opportunity to playtest any number of games, some that are in early stages of development and others that might be on the cusp of launching. While this is fun, it’s also a bit of work. They’ll want you to help provide feedback on what you’re playing.
“Testing focus may include game concepts, and trials at early, mid, or later stages of game development,” the PlayStation website reads. “This may include appraising features, providing feedback on design and usability, or participating in surveys about existing features and cutting-edge concepts.”
Again, they are trying to gather important information from specific gamers, so this is not just a free-for-all. You’ll need to jump through hoops to get approved.
First, you should know, you have to have an active PlayStation Network account that has no restrictions, suspensions or other bad hits. You have to be in good standing or they won’t approve you. If you have that in order and an active email account connected to it, then you’re ready to request access to the beta.
Here’s what you’ll do. Head over to the Beta Program at PlayStation sign-up page. Click “Join Now.” You’ll go through a number of screening questions to see if you fit what they’re looking for. This includes your age, geographic location and what kind of games you play. This latter point may just be info that helps them make sure you’re getting to test the right kind of games if you join the program.
Once you submit, you’ll wait to see if you’re approved. If you’re lucky enough to be included in the Beta Program at PlayStation, congratulations. Now…you wait some more. If there are games they want you to playtest, you’ll receive an email inviting you to play.
This is a great way for avid gamers to get a sneak peak at exciting new games coming down the pike, free of charge.
