COVID-19 has forced us all inside and online. Thankfully, with major forward strides in digital technology over the past decade, there’s a real online infrastructure in place that can support a largely remote global workforce.

Many companies that operate in this sphere have seen a major uptick in users. Zoom, for example, was barely on the radar just a few months ago, and now they’re at the top of the game and making big moves for the future.

Digital marketing is another area that has seen increased activity as more businesses move to the internet. That being said, digital marketing has had to pivot away from strategies intended to drive physical traffic into brick-and-mortar locations. That’s a no-no in today’s human interaction weary environment.

Instead, those in digital marketing have pivoted toward campaigns and strategies that raise brand awareness and create website traffic, especially in the short term. If the pandemic has taught us anything it’s that we have no idea what the business world is going to look like in only a few short months. This is a touch-and-go scenario with a lot of uncertainty and so businesses are hesitant to commit too far down the field.

This is even more of a problem for those businesses that depend entirely on in-person interactions for their bread and butter. Think restaurants, movie theaters and casinos. What are they if there are no customers walking through their physical doors?

In recent years, there’s been a lot of push to move casinos online, not instead of physical locations but in addition to. Online casinos offer more opportunities for players to gamble and make some money, without having to interact with dealers in person.

Online casinos have allowed those casinos who’ve embraced it – meaning those who’ve been allowed to offer online games by local legislation – to continue to operate in at least some form and continue to bring in revenue.

Digital marketing for these casinos would then pivot to boosting their online presence and visibility in an effort to get more online players who are looking for the casino experience in a safe environment.

Focusing on short-term goals is all we can do right now and so our marketing efforts, including those on the internet, are going to reflect that.
