Latin America is one of the world’s fastest-growing regions for cryptocurrency adoption, but the media landscape is showing a surprising trend. While more people are exploring crypto, outlets dedicated entirely to crypto coverage are seeing a sharp decline in traffic. At the same time, mainstream publishers covering crypto as part of broader content are attracting more readers.
These insights are based on Outset PR’s Q2 2025 LATAM Crypto Media Traffic Review, which analyzed publicly available traffic data from SimilarWeb for 55 Latin America–focused media outlets.
A Steep Drop for Crypto-Native Media
According to the report, total traffic to crypto-focused outlets fell significantly in Q2 2025. From April to June, visits declined steadily, with only about 28% of these outlets experiencing growth. The top tier of highly visited crypto publishers shrank dramatically, leaving only a few maintaining significant readership.
This shows a growing challenge for specialized media: even as interest in crypto grows, engagement with dedicated crypto platforms is not keeping pace.
Mainstream Outlets Capture More Attention
By contrast, mainstream publishers covering crypto saw increases in traffic. Overall visits to these outlets rose by roughly 8% compared to Q1.
Country-level patterns are notable. Argentina led mainstream crypto-related traffic, while Brazil dominated the crypto-native media segment. These differences suggest that audience behavior varies across the region, and mainstream outlets may appeal more broadly in certain markets.
A Few Winners Emerge
Despite the overall decline for crypto-native outlets, a handful of publishers achieved significant growth. Outlets such as Criptoinforme and Bitnoticias recorded double-digit percentage increases in traffic, demonstrating that influence can still grow even in a contracting sector.
However, higher traffic does not necessarily mean long-term audience retention. The report notes that sustaining engagement remains a challenge for these publishers.
How People Discover Crypto News
Traffic sources highlight additional trends. Both crypto-native and mainstream outlets rely heavily on direct visits and organic search. Social platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube contribute significantly, with LinkedIn outperforming Instagram, reflecting professional interest in crypto topics.
AI-driven discovery is reshaping readership. Many users are turning to AI platforms for answers instead of traditional search engines. Mainstream outlets captured far more AI-driven traffic than crypto-specialized sites, underscoring the structural challenges niche media face in the era of AI-assisted discovery.
What This Means for LATAM’s Crypto Media
The disconnect between growing crypto adoption and declining traffic to specialized media suggests that audience behavior is shifting. Mainstream coverage is increasingly important, while niche publishers need to adapt to new discovery methods and engagement strategies.
Understanding these trends can help anyone tracking Latin America’s crypto ecosystem to see which outlets are gaining influence and how readers are discovering content.
