Travelers who need a rental car in New York City over the Thanksgiving holiday will have to pay significantly more than usual, according to a recent survey conducted by CheapCarRental.net.

The survey compared car rental rates for 30 destinations in the United States for the period spanning November 21 to 25, 2017. This timeframe represents the holiday itself as well as the days immediately leading up to and following it. The airport associated with each respective city served as the pick-up and drop-off location when compiling the results.

In NYC, the cheapest available car at JFK Airport will cost $116 per rental day over the long Thanksgiving weekend. That price tag represents the highest rate by far among all destinations. Compared to regular rates, it is the equivalent of an over 120% increase.

New York City is a popular destination for Thanksgiving thanks to the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Black Friday shopping deals.

At an average rate of $74 per rental day, Boston is the second most expensive destination over Thanksgiving. Completing the Top 3 podium is Denver, where a Thanksgiving celebrator will have to spend $64 for the cheapest available rental car.
