For longtime Netflix users, new changes are coming underway. Don’t get too comfortable with the current price on your Netflix bill. Later this year, all customers of the popular online streaming service will be granted a price increase to make way for their upcoming enhancements. Unfortunately, no one will be lucky to come out unscathed this time around.
For many customers, this price increase is familiar territory. In 2014, Netflix announced that they would increase the membership price for newbies by $1. Yet, current customer were gifted their original price. With the price increase in 2015, loyal members were still granted the $7.99 price. Still, this new increase shouldn’t come as a surprise to loyal Netflix bingers.
Current members will receive an automatic price bump. Instead, they will now pay $9.99 for the standard definition edition of Netflix. However, members have two other options.
One, they can decide to go out on a limb and pay $11.99. This will allow access to Netflix’s premium services, including high definition content—the works. Or, if one is not willing to leave their comfort zone, they will have the option to downgrade to the basic edition. Therefore, they will be able to continue paying the $7.99 price. Those who choose to remain with the basic edition will view their content in standard definition, as normal.
Could this price jump potentially affect Netflix’s standing? Not necessarily.
With the original content that the streaming service has produced, the company can only expect to see a steady increase in new members. “Orange is the New Black” and “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” are among some of the shows that are helping to pave the way. In addition, the fact that they managed to nab big name stars and make stars out of unknown actors is an accomplishment within itself.
Since this content is exclusive to Netflix, it will only make them a hot commodity. Even Hulu and Amazon can’t keep up! It’s the best deal out there. Therefore, they know that they can get away with it.
Hopefully, Netflix will wait several years to increase the price of their services. Either way, loyal Netflix bingers will most likely go the extra mile to continue accommodate the company’s commands.
