Are you spending beyond your means? Do you constantly overdraw your checking account? Well maybe what you need is 255 volts surging through your body by way of a wristband.
British company, Intelligent Environments designed the Pavlok wristband to help curb bad habits like oversleeping, smoking or visiting time-wasting websites by “gently” reminding you to cut it out by applying an electric charge to your wrist.
Now this shock is said to be “noticeable” but not dangerous. That’s encouraging as that’s just how I like my surges of electricity through my body, “noticeable.”
In an effort to make the band more versatile they’ve figured out a way to connect the Pavlok with your bank account so if it goes below a certain limit the shock band will spring into action with an electric wrist slap. While no banks have jumped on board with this idea yet Intelligent Environments seems convinced this is a necessary product.
“This is about reacting to changes in your financial well-being,” explained CEO David Weber to BBC. “Willpower is great if you have it – not everybody has.”
The Pavlok will also work with your Nest smart thermostat using its economy mode to turn the heat down in your home if your funds are too low.
Weber elaborated on how you can still take manual control over the Pavlok. “If you get home and decide you can afford for it to be warmer you can turn it back up again.”
Staying in line with the whole, “it’s still up to the consumer” theme, if you’re tired of being zapped you can turn that function off making the band simply a decorative item for your wrist.
They currently have over $250,000 raised on their Indiegogo campaign from over 2000 backers showing that some people may actually lack enough self-discipline that they need to be zapped into line. Or over 2,000 people are straight up masochists. Probably a little bit of both.
