In a recent study it was found that 90% of breakfast eaters are bored with their morning toast. In a unrelated study it was found that 100% of that first sentence isn’t true. But still why can’t we liven up our breakfast and make it more fun?

Well if the Toasteroid has its way we’ll be seeing the first app-controlled image toaster on the market very soon. Toasteroid is currently running a Kickstarter campaign for this cool new product.

The concept is simple. Using the accompanying app you can select what you want to appear on your toast. This can be one of the template images like an emoji, the weather forecast, a custom image you draw or even a special toast message.

Messages or “toastages” are sent from someone else using the Toasteroid app. You can’t see the message until it pops up on the toast making this a great way to send secret messages. In other words, this is some next level spy stuff. Though I’m sure it can also be used for “Happy Birthday” or “I love you” but that doesn’t sound nearly as fun.

Once you select what you want, you choose the brownness level and hit done. A timer will pop up letting you know how long until your image toast is ready for you to eat.

Instead of using played-out stencil technology the Toasteroid employs a smart toasting system that heats up the exact points on the toast to make the selected image or text.

Now without getting an actual first-hand look at this new smart toaster I’d say the only negative is that it looks quite a bit bigger than your average toaster. So if you plan to buy one you’ll have to make sure you have some extra room on your counter.

Currently they’ve raised just over $100,000 towards their $150,000 goal on Kickstarter. Something tells me they won’t have any problem meeting their goal.

Just think of the endless possibilities associated with being able to write or draw anything on your toast. Superhero toast, romantic toast, inspirational quote toast, passive aggressive toast. The list goes on and on.
