While Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 is hitting theaters this weekend and will probably make $10000 trillion, Marvel is making splashes in another medium, Netflix. The new Defenders trailer just dropped and fans are losing their friggin’ minds (read: I’m losing my friggin’ mind).

So far we’ve seen quality shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil (2 seasons) and Iron Fist deliver their own brand of live-action fare that is darker, grittier and more intimate. While some weren’t the biggest fans of Marvel’s most recent show, Iron Fist, it was still a solid show, even if it was the “weakest link.”

Each show takes place in New York City, Manhattan specifically, rarely going outside the borough. Each defends their neighborhood be it Harlem, Hell’s Kitchen, etc. In the limited series The Defenders the three unlikely heroes will team up to stop a greater evil from destroying New York and presumably the world.

Though there have been some character crossovers in the various shows this is the first time every character is in the same room, even if reluctantly. Just take another look at that right hook to Luke’s jaw. Ouch.

Set to the ominous remixed Come As You Are by Nirvana, the trailer packs a punch as the Defenders join forces to stop the ultimate weapon Elektra (see Daredevil season 2). The highlight of the trailer is towards the end when the four of them are fighting a gang of henchmen in a tight hallway á la Daredevil season 1. Each of their fighting styles is well represented.

The second highlight of course is our first real glimpse at the villainous Alexandra played by the incomparable Sigourney Weaver. We don’t know much about her other than the fact that she’s rich and evil and presumably behind much of the chaos in each of the previous shows.

The culmination of these small-screen Marvel superheroes is the equivalent of The Avengers, so, you know it’s kind of a big deal. The show hits Netflix on August 18th.

What are your thoughts on The Defenders trailer? Does it look like another slam dunk for Marvel? Let us know in the comments section!
