As one might expect, an overnight stay in Miami, Florida during Art Basel 2017 is going to be pricey. Hoteliers around the Miami Beach Convention Center, this year’s venue for North America’s largest art show, are increasing their rates by as much as 300 percent over the norm. That’s the finding of a recent survey conducted by MiamiHotels.org.

In the event’s South Beach headquarters, only 20 percent of hotels still have rooms available over Art Basel’s December 7–10, 2017 timeframe. These limited vacancies come with a steep price tag, though. On average, they will cost guests 136 percent more than normal. The rate increases don’t stop there either. Some accommodations are taking advantage of room demand and are raising their prices even more.

The Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel serves as a prime example. With its boutique accommodation style and convenient locale in the center of South Beach, it has elevated the price tag of a deluxe room to $662 throughout Art Basel. That means guests will be shelling out 186 percent more for the same room on a typical weekend. Percentage wise, the Dorchester Hotel is going even higher. Situated near the beach, this three-star establishment is charging a lower per-night rate of $359 for a standard double room than the Kimpton Surfcomber. But guests there will be paying double the cost they normally would.

Just a tad more affordable is South Beach. An out-of-town Art Basel attendee can expect a nightly bill there of $300 at the check-in counter. That’s for the cheapest available room in three-star or better hotel. To stay the whole Art Basel weekend, inclusive of taxes, they can thus anticipate a total bill of about $1,000. Downtown Miami is slightly less expensive, with rooms to be had for $250 per night. Budget seekers should hone in on the Miami International Airport region or the North Beach area. By doing so, they should be able to secure a room for around $150 nightly.
