Ring cameras have become a ubiquitous part of home surveillance, but unlike local-storage security cameras you might find in a large business setting, they are limited in only capturing short video when activated by motion or live view. The Amazon-owned company is finally correcting that with 24/7 recordings.

“With 24/7 Recording, eligible wired cameras can continuously record and capture activity even outside of motion zones, giving you an even better understanding of what’s happening around your home or business,” the General Manager of Ring Subscriptions and Experience, Eric Kuhn, said in a blog post.

The feature is only included in their top tier plan – Ring Home Premium. For $19.99 a month, users get cloud storage that cover all-day and night recordings on up to 10 cameras. These recordings will be overwritten after 14 days.

Access to two weeks of continuous recording is pretty substantial. That’s 1,176 hours of video, allowing you to see what’s going down on your premises at all times. Recordings activated by motion will still be available in the cloud for 180 days.

Now 24/7 recordings won’t be available on every camera off the bat, but they intend to expand it to cover as many as possible in short order. For the time being, it will be available on the Pan-Tilt Indoor cameras, the second-gen Indoor Cam and both the Stick Up Cam and Stick Up Cam Pro. It does not include doorbells.

As you’ll notice those are all wired cameras, so the popular wireless, battery-powered versions of these cameras are still only capable of motion detection and live view recording. Though Ring is offering some new features for those as part of their plan restructuring.

Live View is getting a real shot in the arm. On a Standard plan, users can watch up to 30 minutes of video. Previously this would top out at 10 minutes. Those on a Premium Plan get even more time. How much time is unclear.

All of these new features are rolling out in the next month and will be available across the globe by November 5th.
