Sega is getting ready to delist a whole bunch of classic games by the end of 2024 to supposedly make room for newer versions of those titles.

The delisting wave affects more than 62 games across Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and Steam. It’s the latter that will see the most impact. In fact, 62 games are leaving Steam while only 12 are leaving Xbox. Sega Genesis Classics is leaving both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, but that’s it.

It makes sense because a lot of the legacy Sega titles are on Steam to be played on PC or Mac. It’s an easier port than getting it on Nintendo Switch or other consoles.

Classic Sega games to be ousted on December 6th 11:59pm EST include Altered Beast, Bonanza Bros, Comix Zone, Crazy Taxi, Dr. Robotnik’s Bean Machine, Ecco: The Tides of Time, Eternal Champions, Golden Axe, Sonic Spinball, Streets of Rage, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkoton and many more. You can see a full list of the soon-to-be-removed games here.

If you’ve purchased and downloaded one of these titles, you’ll still be able to play them going forward. They will not be removed from your library. This delisting extravaganza only applies to new purchases.

This isn’t the first time the video game company has delisted titles. It seems to be the way they handle upcoming releases. Delist classic titles, drum up demand and then release the new version.

Sega has already announced upcoming reboots of games like Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and Shinobi. All of which are victims of the December 6th purge. That said, those reboots don’t have any release dates, so we don’t know when they’re coming or if the delisting wave is connected.

So if you’ve got your eye on some classic Sega games that you’ve been meaning to buy, now is the time to do it. You have until the end of the night on December 6th 2024.
