A new EV battery just announced will charge up cars faster than ever, providing 186 miles of range in a single 5-minute charge.

The lightning-fast battery was unveiled by ProLogium, a company that specializes in batteries for EVs, at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The charging technology used to juice up an electric car in no time flat is a history-defining, breakthrough tech. You can charge up about as fast as you’d gas up. That’s huge.

“Our new technology has broken through existing barriers,” Vince Yang, founder and CEO of ProLogium, said in a statement. Our goal is to be a game changer in the market, injecting new energy into the electric vehicle sector.”

ProLogium’s battery can handle 321 watt-hours per kilogram compared to a traditional ion battery which can only handle 300. But it won’t stop there. They have every intention of making the new EV battery even more powerful and efficient.

By the end of just this year (2024) they’re going to increase battery performance by a staggering 77%. This just means more range in even faster charging times.

The design of the new battery is impressive in other ways as well. They’ve constructed it to be modular which is another huge development.

Here’s why a modular battery system in an EV is important. In traditional electrical vehicles if a battery went kaput, you’d have to change out the entire battery system because they were all connected as one. In the new ProLogium system, you can replace a single battery and keep the rest of the batteries in place. This will save car owners a bundle in repairs.

ProLogium’s next-gen battery is a big step forward in mass adoption of EVs. We’ve seen so many more hitting the road in these last few years, but if they can handle some of the chief complaints (charging speeds, purchase prices, charging accessibility) we will see EVs dominate the roads in very short order.
