Every new year, sports fans begin to anticipate the year ahead, with most seasons refreshing and athletes getting a break over the festive period. With some sports like American Football having the bulk of their season over the winter, there are still plenty of reasons for sports fans to get excited for the upcoming 2025!

The team at ProfitDuel, who are known for their different sportsbook promos, have looked over some of the most significant sporting events coming up in the 2025 season. We look at when these events are, what the format is and what makes them significantly important throughout the year!

Super Bowl – February 9th

Super Bowl 59 is the edition that will be played on Sunday, February 9th, in New Orleans, and for most readers, we do not need to emphasise how big the Super Bowl is! The game will be played by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to go three in a row with a win in February. After beating the Eagles in 2023, Philadelphia will be looking to come back and reclaim the coveted trophy since their last win in 2018.

With both teams being the best two in American football coming into the tie, the Chiefs and Eagles are both known for having extremely strong defences, meaning the game between these two should be a tight affair!

One of the biggest traditions which round up viewers from across the globe is the halftime show in the Super Bowl. In 2025, the halftime show will be performed by Kendrick Lemar, who is one of the most popular artists in the world! With all these different elements coming together, the Super Bowl is set to be one of the sporting highlights of the year!

The Grand National – April 5th

The Grand National is an annual horse racing event which takes place in the United Kingdom, with the 2025 event taking place in Liverpool. The race is a handicap race, meaning the horses run at slightly different weights, ensuring that the action throughout the race is non-stop!

With the race being one of the longest horse races around and jumps being included, the Grand National is one of the biggest horse races of the year. Plenty of different races take place over a couple of days in this iconic racing festival.

The main event will feature horses such as Coko Beach, Delta Work and Fantastic Lady. The winner of this race will be awarded a 1 million pound prize, one of the biggest in the sport of horse racing!

Indy 500 – May 26th

One of the biggest motor racing events of the year, especially in America, the Indy 500 is one of the biggest races throughout the Indy car season and is a staple in the motorsports calendar.

Taking place at the Indianapolis Speedway, the race covers 500 miles, with 200 laps being completed across the track! With drivers continuously driving at full speed, this is one of the hardest races for drivers to endure due to the high loads of G-force they must sustain.

With Josef Newgarden winning the past two Indy 500 races, he will be looking to make it three in a row, whilst other drivers like Marcus Eriksson and Pato O’Ward will be looking to challenge the two-time winner. With the winner traditionally celebrating with a glass of milk, the Indy 500 is tipped to be one of the most interesting sporting events in the year 2025.

Wimbledon Tennis Tournament – June – July

Being one of the most popular tennis Grand Slam events, Wimbledon in 2025 is expected to be one of the stand-out events of the sporting year! With the scenery, summer aesthetic and players dressing in all white, the traditions in Wimbledon make for a truly unique feel.

Carlos Alcaraz comes into the tournament as one of the favourites despite not being the

best-seeded player in the world. With the two past Wimbledon tournaments being won by the Spaniard, he is expected to prosper again with the grass courts favouring his play style. Jannick Sinner, the world number one, is undoubtedly the best player on hard courts, so the transition onto grass should be interesting to see.

The event takes place over two weeks, meaning there are two weeks of non-stop tennis action to enjoy! Wimbledon stands out compared to the other Grand Slam events purely due to the traditions and the grass courts, which cannot be found at any other event!

Ryder Cup – September 23-28th

After the demolition of Team USA in Rome in 2023, the Americans look to bounce back at Bethpage in New York, whilst Team Europe looks to carry on bringing the pain after their dominance in the last Ryder Cup.

In the last Ryder Cup, we saw plenty of controversy as Rory Mcillory and Patrick Cantlay gave heated exchanges, and with the tournament now held in America, the Americans will be giving it their all to bring the trophy back.

With the tournament putting the best golfers from America and Europe up against each other, there are no clear favourites this year, yet with Scottie Scheffler on the American side, he is a true game-changer in the game of golf as he is the world number 1.
