We knew we’d get an Xbox/Meta VR headset collaboration at some point, as it was announced last year, but we didn’t know when. Well, that question has been answered as the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition just dropped without any real heads up.
Now, if you’re looking for a brand-new VR headset that’s unlike anything on the market, this isn’t that. Essentially, it’s just an Xbox-branded Quest 3S. That means it’s just jet black with green accents to match your Xbox with a number of accessories thrown in to sell the crossover.
In addition to the VR headset, the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition bundle will get you an Xbox controller and Xbox-colored Touch controllers, Meta Quest Elite Strap, 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and 3 months of Meta Horizon+.
This whole new bundle doesn’t offer anything innovative, but rather, it’s working as a form of marketing (like every Xbox limited edition bundle) to highlight the Xbox Cloud Gaming app on the Meta Quest.
Launched in December 2023, the Xbox Cloud Gaming VR app allows players to stream a ton of Xbox titles directly on their Quest headset. This means you don’t need a TV because the VR headset creates its own huge display for you to play on.
“Using the Xbox app on Quest, players can instantly access hundreds of games directly with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta), including South of Midnight, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Avowed, and more as part of their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership,” Lori Wright, the Corporate VP of Xbox Partnerships & Marketing, said in a blog post announcing the new special edition VR headset.
It’s not clear if Microsoft wants to create their own branded VR headset, but this partnership with Meta Quest at least shows they’re interested in their Xbox games being played in virtual reality.
The Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition is available for purchase now for a relatively low $399.99.
