AirPods aren’t just for iPhones. If you’ve ever wished you could use them on your laptop for Zoom calls, streaming Netflix, or blocking out background noise while you work, the good news is that you can. And it’s easier than you think. Whether you’re on a MacBook or a Windows laptop, here’s how to get your AirPods paired in just a few minutes.
Connecting AirPods to a MacBook
If you’re already an Apple user, this part is usually simple. When your AirPods are paired with your iPhone under the same Apple ID, they often show up automatically in your Mac’s Bluetooth menu. If they don’t, here’s what to do:
-
Open Bluetooth Settings
-
Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner.
-
Go to System Settings (or System Preferences on older Macs).
-
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
-
-
Put Your AirPods in Pairing Mode
-
Place both AirPods in the charging case.
-
Open the lid.
-
Hold the setup button on the back until the light flashes white.
-
-
Connect
-
On your Mac, your AirPods should appear in the Bluetooth list.
-
Click Connect to pair them.
-
Connecting AirPods to a Windows Laptop
AirPods also work with Windows laptops through Bluetooth. Here’s how to connect them:
-
Open Bluetooth Settings
-
Press Windows + I to open Settings.
-
Go to Devices > Bluetooth & other devices (or just Bluetooth on newer versions).
-
Turn Bluetooth on.
-
-
Put AirPods in Pairing Mode
-
Put the AirPods in the case and open the lid.
-
Press and hold the setup button until the white light flashes.
-
-
Add Your AirPods
-
In Bluetooth settings, click Add Bluetooth or other device.
-
Select Bluetooth.
-
Choose your AirPods from the list.
-
Once connected, you’ll see a confirmation message.
What to Do If Your AirPods Won’t Connect
If your AirPods aren’t connecting, try these quick fixes:
-
Make sure Bluetooth is on.
-
Charge both the AirPods and the case.
-
Restart your laptop and repeat the steps.
-
On Windows, remove the AirPods from your Bluetooth list and re-add them.
-
Check that your AirPods aren’t already connected to another device nearby.
Using AirPods for Zoom, Teams, and More
Once your AirPods are connected, you can use them in apps like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, or Google Meet. Just open the app’s audio settings and select AirPods as both your microphone and speaker.
Final Tips
-
On a Mac, AirPods may automatically switch between your iPhone and Mac if both devices are nearby. You can turn this feature off in Bluetooth settings.
-
On Windows, you may notice some lag or slightly reduced mic quality. This is a limitation of Bluetooth, not the AirPods themselves.
Now your AirPods are ready to go with your laptop, whether you’re watching movies, taking calls, or just listening to music while you work.
