Spotify has been gradually growing their offerings over the years, expanding well beyond their original model of simply streaming music. They’ve added support for audiobooks and podcasts and have even started to include social media features on their platform.
Just this week, they announced a new way for podcast creators and listeners to interact. Spotify is adding a comment function for podcasts.
“Comments have been a long-requested feature from both podcasters and Spotify listeners, and we were excited to provide it since we’re very invested in making Spotify the best platform for all types of creators to connect with their biggest fans,” a Spotify blog post announcing the new feature reads.
They previously added support for podcast creators to engage in Q&As and polls, but that was limited. This new comment section allows creators to directly engage with their audience without having to go off-platform to X or Facebook. And that’s the intention behind everything – user retention.
Spotify wants users to spend as much time in their app as possible. That means bringing outside functions in-house, so you don’t need to go anywhere else. Now when you have a question or want to say something about what you’re listening to, you can do that right in the Spotify app. Creators can see those comments and can choose to engage. It’s a direct line, creating a two-way exchange which has never really been a podcast thing.
This new feature is rolling out now alongside a brand-new app for podcast creators – Spotify for Podcasters. This is a fully rebuilt and redesigned app specifically for creators to manage their podcasts episodes. They can quickly access charting info, detailed analytics and, of course, comments.
It’s clear Spotify is going all in on podcasts, having already spent hundreds of millions to secure exclusive (and even non-exclusive) podcasters like Joe Rogan. So you can be sure they’re going to keep adding more and more features to make listening to Spotify podcasts as easy and enjoyable as possible.
