Divorce can take a while, which you likely discovered when you learned the average timeline to finalize a CT divorce. There’s a lot you need to do in this time, from working through your emotions and grief to reorganizing or maintaining your routines.
However, you will still end up with a lot of free time. While this time can be spent in a myriad of ways, spending it on fun things can make you feel a lot better. Below are just a few ways that you can do that.
Shows and Movies
One of the best and coziest ways to spend your free time is to binge-watch your favorite TV shows and movies. Set a weekend aside, prepare your favorite snacks, and throw your favorite pajamas and blankets into the dryer for extra coziness to prepare for such an event. Maybe you could even build yourself a pillow fort to relax in.
From here, all you have to do is collect your favorites, as they could be spread across multiple streaming services or disks, and start watching! You could even make it more fun by inviting a few friends over. This will make watching the shows or movies take longer as you wait for people to arrive, wake up, use the restroom, etc., but the jokes and memories will make it all worth it.
And, if the show or movie turns out to not be as good as you remembered, they may be able to provide suggestions about alternative shows to watch or other fun stuff you all could do together.
Get Creative
One of the best ways to kill time is to be creative. What this looks like will vary from person to person. Maybe you pick up a pen and notebook and start jotting down whatever’s in your head, eventually crafting a story. You could pick up an easel, canvases and paint and start painting your own masterpiece. Some prefer to find free online programs and create music.
Of course, your art can be a bit more involved if you’d like. The internet is full of craft ideas, ranging from coloring, cutting out and folding pictures to create simple shapes to mastering difficult origami tutorials. Excess wood and nails can create a whole host of cool things, from abstract art pieces to something you could use around the house or even sell.
And that doesn’t even consider materials like metal, glass, or clay, each of which can be turned into gorgeous or practical pieces of art. The only thing holding you back is your own mind, so just relax, pick a craft and let yourself run wild.
Try New Recipes
Whether you’re looking for a new, tasty meal or want a delicious treat, you can’t go wrong when trying out a new recipe. If you’re new to cooking, there are tons of shows, videos and recipes out there designed for beginners.
They’ll be tasty, simple meals that can teach you new skills, from understanding how heat and time affect different foods to how to get all the different parts of your meal done at the same time. More experienced cooks can either experiment to create a new meal or look up recipes to either try as-is or manipulate to better fit personal tastes better.
While baking is a bit more precise than cooking, it can be just as easy to pick up and understand. Simple recipes like muffins and cakes are everywhere, so all you have to do is decide what type you’d like to bake and make sure you know what the instructions mean.
Experimentation in baking is typically discouraged due to how precise the recipes can be, but it can still teach you a lot, especially when a recipe encourages you to try out a few different variations. No matter which you’d like to try, make sure you have all of the ingredients on hand before you start preparing your kitchen.
Try a New Hobby
When nothing that you normally do sounds appealing, try finding a new hobby. Think about an activity that sounded or looked cool, or that you enjoyed when you were younger.
Then, find a class that lets you practice those tasks with other beginners or just try it at home. Even if it turns out to not be as cool or fun as it looked, you tried, and that’s what’s most important.
Enjoy Local Attractions
Almost every town has something to enjoy, from museums and art galleries to amusement parks or regular parks. When you’re feeling bored and aren’t sure what to do, try visiting one of these places. Thrill can be found at local haunted houses and escape rooms, while calm relaxation can be experienced at a local park or museum.
Art galleries can speak to you on a deep level and encourage you to get lost in thought. Local restaurants have offerings for both locals and tourists to enjoy, so don’t be afraid to check them out, too. Just do your research beforehand to make sure you have enough cash and time to fully appreciate the location’s offerings.
Hang Out With Friends and Family
Sometimes, you want to just spend some quality time with your loved ones. When that feeling strikes, prepare for a boatload of fun! While movie nights have already been covered, there are plenty of other things to do with your friends and family.
If you enjoy the outdoors, you could go on a group hike or go on a bike ride through your town or city. If you have dogs, you could bring them along for extra fun. Maybe you could set your house up with more tables and extra chairs and host a potluck dinner and see what everyone brings.
If that’s not your thing, maybe go shopping together or visit a local karaoke bar. And, if the season is right, you could even enjoy the spooks of a haunted house or escape room. There are so many options available. And, if your mind goes blank, you could let your friends pitch ideas and vote on the best one.
