Waco

Waco, the seat of McLennan County in central Texas, is the second most expensive destination in Texas.

The cost of its lodging was the determining factor in its number two finish according to a recent survey conducted by Cheaphotels.org.

In coming up with the rankings, the survey put 30 cities in the Lone Star State side by side. It then used the average rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel) during the month of April 2018 as the basis of comparison. April was selected as a comparative benchmark as a result of it being the month during which most Texan cities reach their highest average hotel rates.

To stay overnight in Waco, travelers will have to spend an average of $176, and that’s for the city’s least expensive room. Only Odessa, located along the southwestern edge of the Llano Estacado, is more expensive. At an average cost of $186 per night, it takes the survey’s number one spot. The state capital of Austin rounds out the Top 3 at an average nightly price tag of $174.

Significantly more affordable are the other cities in central Texas considered by the survey. In Round Rock and

College Station, overnight guests can expect to pay $94 and $79, respectively, for the cheapest available double room. Killeen, home to the Fort Hood military base, ranks rock bottom on the survey at an average of only $55 per night.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in Texas based on the average rate
