Meta has officially set the date for their Quest Gaming Showcase 2022. The event which focuses on all things VR (at least Quest VR) will kick off on April 20.

This isn’t the maiden voyage of the VR event, but it is the first one under the Quest banner. We saw the VR extravaganza for the first time last year when it was called the Oculus Gaming Showcase. Since then, Meta decided to get rid of “Oculus” as a brand and start pushing it as Meta Quest, hence the Showcase name change.

“You can expect new game announcements, gameplay first-looks, updates on games coming in the next year, and a whole lot of surprises,” a Meta Quest blog post states. (Strangely, it’s still called an Oculus blog.)

A little slim on the details, but it’s only three weeks away, so you won’t have to wait too long. Last year was heavy on game VR adaptation announcements, so it’s a safe bet that’s the bulk of what we’ll hear.

With “Meta” permeating throughout the branding of their subsidiaries we might see more on this line. The point here is to draw attention to the metaverse. This is an idea which is really ramping up in Silicon Valley and Meta is kind of leading the way, at least in their own mind.

The idea behind the metaverse is you can bring everything together – shopping, social media, gaming, media consumption – all in a single universe in which you can digitally traverse. As an idea, it encompasses so much more than simply VR. It’s VR, AR and everything in between and surrounding and reaching out to the cosmos.

“VR will be the most immersive way for people to access the metaverse and as we look toward our goal of bringing one billion people into VR, we want to make clear that Quest is a Meta product,” Andrew Bosworth, Meta Vice President of AR/VR said in a Facebook post back in October.

You can watch the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase on April 20, 10am PST across numerous platforms – Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and, the Quest live event platform, Horizon Venues.
