Threads Finally Allows Links

By: Nick Gambino

Threads is finally allowing users to add multiple links in their bio so they don’t have to use third-party services like Linktree in order to share jumps to other sites. Accounts are now able to share up to five links right at the top of their account page.

Up until this point Threads only let users post one link in their bio, hence the reliance on other social media landing page services that house all the links you need.

When Meta launched the Threads app it was another in a long line of X competitors after many users jumped ship when Elon Musk bought the platform formerly known as Twitter.

In the shakeup, a lot of people found their new home in either Bluesky or Threads. But while these new apps offered an environment that was more aligned with their values, users found that they lacked a number of features that had been around for years on Twitter/X. That’s just the nature of being new, it takes a while to build up a large cache of features.

Despite that, Threads has managed to tally a respectable 350 million active monthly users. This is in large part due to the Meta machine and being under its umbrella of social media platforms that include Facebook and Instagram. By integrating and streamlining between the three, it felt very easy to create and use a Threads account.

By offering the ability to share links to other sites right within the bio, Threads is making it easy to work within the Threads platform, even if it’s sending people elsewhere. People are already using workarounds like Linktree and Beacons to send people to other sites, so this puts the control within Threads purview. Essentially they are removing the middleman.

This also makes it so Threads is able to provide insights to creators on who visited what links, further incentivising creators to work within the Threads platform.

We have no indication that they will allow for more links in the future. Creators who have more than five links they want to share will probably continue to use Linktree, etc. to send visitors to other platforms.
