Adobe Releases Mobile App for Generative AI Tool Firefly

By: Nick Gambino

As generative AI tools continue to make huge strides forward in quality, companies are focusing their attention on making the experience more mobile.

Adobe has just launched a mobile app for their own set of generative AI tools – Firefly. This platform relaunched back in April 2025 as a central hub for Adobe’s various AI creators, including features for generating images, videos, audio as well as photo editing.

Available for both iOS and Android, the app provides a space where users can generate photos and entire videos from a simple text prompt. Type in a simple sentence like “overgrown tree with cash for leaves” and the generator will spit back four images inspired by your prompt.

Each will be a slightly different interpretation. You can then tweak or completely change your text description to get an image that more closely represents your vision. You can even use the Style Reference feature that bases the generated image on another image you upload or pick from the Firefly library. There’s a Composition Reference feature as well.

Once you have the image nailed down you can quickly turn it into a 5-second video or use any of the various AI photo editing tools. Everything is built on a variety of AI models and they’re not all Adobe’s proprietary tech.

“Creators can explore concepts with Adobe’s Firefly family of generative AI models, OpenAI’s image generation and Google’s Imagen 3 and 4 and Veo 2 and 3,” a blog post announcing the new mobile app reads.

Firefly on your phone works similar to its web counterpart. You’ll be able to access a ton of the main features for free but with limitations. A lot more opens up when you’re willing to pay.

Anything you save in the Firefly mobile app will sync up with Creative Cloud, allowing you to access the generated AI content from any device or computer logged into your account.

Every week brings with it news of an expanded use of this burgeoning technology. We are truly in the wild west era of AI. We’ll have to see if the other side brings a utopia or dystopia.
