It’s that time of year again. Apple has set the date for their annual hardware event where they will unveil the newest iPhone. Set your calendar – the iPhone 17 event will be held at 10AM PT on September 9. The tagline is “Awe dropping.”

When Tim Cook and company take the stage at Apple Park in Cupertino, California (most likely in a pre-recorded video), they will lay out all of the upcoming devices that have only been teased at on rumor lines for months.

Here’s what we can expect:

After the introduction of Apple Intelligence in last year’s iPhone 16, we’re all waiting to see what the iPhone 17 has to offer.

The aforementioned Apple AI didn’t have a strong out-of-the-gate moment, so what they decide to do with the burgeoning technology in September is crucial. The AI wars are a very real thing and OpenAI and Google are leading the way. If Apple wants to be a serious player, they need to figure out how the iPhone fits into it all.

If iPhone 17 rumors are to be believed we’re going to get a whole new type of iPhone at this year’s event. This phone would be slimmer, sleeker and more lightweight all around. This isn’t a mini. It’s more like an iPhone 17 Air.

If they do decide to go this route, the camera and the battery would have to take a bit of a hit. But if you keep it cheaper and lighter yet still powerful, you could get a lot of customers to convert to it. That’s what they’re trying to do. Apple is looking to innovate by attempting a sort of rebrand of the iPhone.Veteran tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo even thinks they’re going to get rid of the larger size Plus models.

We don’t know much else (if we even know that) about the iPhone 17 and its various models. The rest of them might just be slight improvements over their predecessors.

Elsewhere in the September 9th event, Apple will most likely unveil the third-gen AirPods Pro, the new series of Apple Watch and maybe even a new iPad. Meanwhile, Google is expected to make waves with the upcoming Pixel 10, which could spark even more competition in the smartphone market.

We’ll know soon enough. You can stream the event live on apple.com or right in the Apple TV app on any device.
