It doesn’t happen every day where a big streaming platform like YouTube gives you money back. And it’s even more rare for them to do it twice. That’s right, there are two different credits for two different scenarios.
The first one is for those who’ve been negatively impacted by an ongoing issue concerning Disney-owned channels. YouTube TV subscribers may have noticed that ABC and ESPN have both been removed from their live TV package. In fact, over twenty channels owned by the media giant have been pulled. This is because Google and Disney are at odds regarding their new contract.
While there’s a lot of mud slinging and hard balling between the behemoths, the ongoing battle can be summed up in two quotes.
“Disney is proposing costly economic terms that would raise prices on YouTube TV customers and give our customers fewer choices while benefiting Disney’s own live TV products – like Hulu + Live TV and, soon, Fubo,” a YouTube Team blog post reads.
“With a $3 trillion market cap, Google is using its market dominance to eliminate competition and undercut the industry-standard terms we’ve successfully negotiated with every other distributor,” a Disney statement says.
This spat has landed squarely on those just trying to enjoy some light entertainment that they paid money for. Google has informed YouTube TV subscribers that they will be getting a $20 credit if this dispute is not resolved soon. So it’s not a guarantee it will be issued, but it’s something to look out for.
The second credit is one that is already available for select YouTube TV subscribers. Those who have paused or cancelled their subscriptions are getting $60 spread over 6 months. In other words, they’re offering $10 off the service per month.
Now, you’ll have to activate this $60 off credit if you want to take advantage of it. They’re not automatically applying it for anyone. Here’s what you’ll have to do:
- Fire up YouTube TV on your computer
- Navigate to settings
- Select “Membership”
- Then select “Manage plan”
- If you’re eligible for the credit you’ll see the option to “Redeem your offer.”
That should do it and you’ll be good to go, saving $10 a month on YouTube TV…without Disney channels, for now.
