It’s no surprise that Apple is already hard at work on next year’s iPhone models, but a new report says they have more than their hands full with 8 new models of the iPhone currently in active development, readying for production.
This report comes way of The Information which is chockful of details on each of the phones as well as expected delivery dates. We’ve reported on some of them, including the iPhone Fold, but there are still a couple surprises.
The list of 8 iPhones that will hit the market in the next two years are as follows, in order of release date:
- iPhone 17e
- iPhone 18 Pro
- iPhone 18 Pro Max
- iPhone Fold
- iPhone 18 (basic model)
- iPhone 18e
- iPhone Air 2
- iPhone 20
I think the one that caught me by surprise the most is the iPhone Air 2. This lighter version of the Apple smartphone is the follow-up to this year’s iPhone Air which had a rollout that was met with a lackluster response. As a result of not putting up numbers to justify its existence, I thought they had fully put the kibosh on the next model.
Apparently that’s not the case. It’s still in the mix and is expected in spring 2027. That gives them time to go back to the drawing board and figure out what they have to do to get people to want to buy it.
The first one we’ll see is the iPhone 17e. This is the budget phone version of the current model. The main upgrade from the 16e is the addition of wireless charging capabilities.
Next up we’ll get the lineup of iPhone 18s in fall 2026. The iPhone Fold will be released alongside the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, while the basic model 18 will be pushed to spring 2027, coupled with the 18e. This gives the iPhone Fold a big fanfare arrival and touts the importance of its release. It also gives the company the best chance to convince people to purchase the more expensive iPhone.
Lastly we’ll get the iPhone 20 in fall 2027. While The Information didn’t detail the various versions we expect at least half the lineup in that time frame.
