The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are officially out of pre-order territory and are shipping to customers today. As reported earlier, the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available for pre-order on November 6, with a November 13 shipping date.
With users getting their hands on the newest iteration of the Apple flagship phone, we’re starting to see first impressions. From all accounts, it’s a pretty solid addition to the popular series of smartphones.
The decision to return to a flat edge body, a la the iPhone 4 and 5, is an interesting one. Despite that one similarity with the older phones, it’s light years beyond what they offered and still looks as new as if they went with rounded edges.
The ceramic shield display of the 12 might seem like your typical glass display, but it’s a lot tougher and is designed to take a beating. In fact, it’s 4 times tougher to break than the 11. That still won’t stop you from wanting to protect it from dropping and shattering the screen. It’s expensive to replace.
The camera, like most iPhones before it, is the biggest selling point. That goes for the iPhone 12 Pro especially. It delivers with a souped-up resolution, awesome Night Mode and of course that dreamy telephoto lens.
A sore point amongst new iPhone 12 users is Apple’s decision to not include a wall charger in the box, and they’re justified in their grievance. Failing to provide a charging solution for an expensive electronic device is just not done. It’s not a good look.
The new MagSafe charger seems to be the main justification for the decision, and while that new slick magnet charger is pretty cool and apparently worth the purchase, not including a wall charger is inexcusable.
Another common accessory is also missing from the box – EarPods. This is less of an issue for me personally. It’s 2020, if you’re buying the iPhone 12 and don’t have AirPods or AirPods Pro, then what are you doing with your life? Shell out a couple hundred bucks and snag a pair of the wireless buds. Why hang yourself with wired headphones?
As with all new iPhones, it helps to sit with the device for a few weeks before we know where it stacks up in the pantheon of iPhones.
