Tech Review

Even though it has looked like Amazon won’t be delivering by drone in the near future, there may still be some hope. Recently, we just had our first donuts 1drone delivery in the U.S. that was approved by aviation officials. This historical moment was drones delivering donuts – and seriously, how convenient does that sound?

The startup Flirtey joined forces with 7-Eleven to start testing out drone delivery. According to Phys.org, Flirtey successfully delivered a chicken sandwich, hot coffee and donuts from 7-Eleven to a family in Reno, Nevada.

Okay, so it may sound like just donuts being delivered, but this delivery is actually a huge deal for the future of commercial drones. Earlier this summer, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) set the first rules for commercial drones in U.S. airspace. These rules made it seem like we most likely will not be getting anything delivered by drone due to the super strict rules. With Flirtey delivering these 7-Eleven donuts by drone, aviation history has officially been made.donuts 2

Flirtey chief executive Matt Sweeny stated, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have 7-Eleven, the largest convenience chain in the world, embracing new technologies and working with us at Flirtey to make drone delivery a reality for customers all over the world. This is just the first step in our collaboration with 7-Eleven. Flirtey’s historic drone deliveries to date have been stepping stones to store-to-home drone delivery, and today is a giant leap toward a not-too-distant future where we are delivering you convenience on demand.”

Flirtey doesn’t want to only make things more convenient, but wants to help the world. They don’t want to only deliver donuts, but they have also been testing out using drones to deliver relief supplies to disaster areas around the world.donuts 5

7-Eleven is literally one of the most convenient stores, and now delivering us donuts by drones? They’re going to be even more convenient. Hopefully soon we can get pizzas delivered by drones.
