Millennials

By: Scott Steinberg

Think you know Millennials, or Gen Yers as they’re often referred? Bzzt – guess again. Today’s largest generation, you may be surprised at just how awesome they really are. So today, we’re sharing some important insights with you about these folks – now today’s largest generation, both in and out of the workplace.

So what do we mean by Millennials exactly? Think people between 19-35 years old, who’ve grown up on a steady diet of online services and new technologies, and are fiercely optimistic and relentlessly determined to change the world for the better. And with 75.4 million friends out there and counting, guess what? They’ve also now surpassed Baby Boomers as the single biggest generation in America, both in and out of the workplace, as well.

True story: By 2020, 1 in 3 adults will be Millennials. Did you know that 87.5% of them do not measure success in terms of money either – they measure it in terms of ability to achieve goals and make a difference in their business or community? In fact, most Millennials say they’d rather earn $40,000 per year at a job they love than $100,000 at one they hate.  What’s more, nearly four in five millennials want to work for innovative companies and believe they’ll work for themselves at some point as well. Millennials now account for $1 trillion in consumer spending now – just in the US alone, and are also predicted to outspend Boomers by next year.

Clearly, as you see, the future looks like for tomorrow’s leaders. However, given the different ways they communicate and interact with the world, we’ve got to be smarter about thinking about how we connect with and engage them.
