1 in 68 children in the U.S. falls somewhere on the autism spectrum while 25% of those children are nonverbal and lack the ability to express their ideas through spoken word.

TippyTalk is an app created by the father of a child living with Autism in an effort to help her get her ideas across when words failed her.

TippyTalk is extremely easy to use and allows those with a verbal disability to communicate with others. Here’s how it works. It’s enhanced AAC (communication) platform that removes the person living with the verbal disability from the frustration.

TippyTalk’s solution allows a person living with a verbal disability to communicate by translating customized pictures into personalized text messages, which are sent to a family member or caregiver’s phone or tablet. The parent or caregiver captures images that are uniquely identifiable and familiar to the person. This can be a person or an object or even an animal.

Next, they apply text to that image. For instance, the text can say “I’m happy” or “I love you” or even “I’m hungry.”

Caregivers have the option to record their own voice reading the text to make it more easily recognizable while at the same time encouraging language development.

When the person with the verbal disability wants to say something, they need only select the person they want to speak with and select the image that communicates that idea.

This effectively removes the limitations of non-verbal same-room communication and removes the person with the verbal disability from the limitations of same room communication and by doing so, promotes communication, independent choice, and gives a platform for social inclusion.

The TippyTalk app is available for iOS, Android, and Kindle with a 30-day free trial. Head to your app store or tippy-talk.com to download it today.
