2023 was a big year for OpenAI. Their ChatGPT platform took the internet by storm, showcasing the vast capabilities of AI. With copycats popping up on Google and Meta and the technology finding itself in the middle of the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes, ChatGPT was everywhere.
Casual and ardent users alike were having a field day getting the AI chatbot to help them create all kinds of things we used to assign strictly to humans. In November, OpenAI took the next step in their mission to create an AI-dominated future by releasing a build platform that allows users to wield the power of ChatGPT in their own custom bots.
These custom-built bots are called GPTs and require zero coding skills to create. You can customize them to work within the confines of your particular company or design it to carry out tedious functions like performing internet searches or dishing out movie trivia on game night.
In just two months, users built more than three million GPTs designed to do their unique bidding. Now, OpenAI has created their very own GPT Store where you can browse a large collection of these one-of-a-kind GPTs available for purchase.
“The store features a diverse range of GPTs developed by our partners and the community,” an OpenAI blog post announcing the store reads. “Browse popular and trending GPTs on the community leaderboard, with categories like DALL-E, writing, research, programming, education, and lifestyle.”
Not every single GPT created in the build program is available in the store, but there are a large array of bots to choose from. You have to specifically agree to have your GPT show up in the store by saving it as “GPT for Everyone.” You also have to ensure your profile is verified. After that it should show up in the store for purchase.
As part of this monetization of ChatGPTs, OpenAI will launch a revenue-sharing program in the next month or so. There’s not a lot of information on what it will entail, but they intend to release more information soon.
In the meantime, you can check out all the user-generated AI chatbots currently in the GPT Store.
