iPhone

Apple held their annual event, “Time Flies,” on September 15th where they would typically announce this year’s iPhone. They unveiled a new Apple Watch, a new iPad Air, but missing was the iPhone 12 itself.

This wasn’t completely unexpected as this year saw the arrival of a global pandemic nobody could’ve predicted. This little snafu affected nearly everything and resulted in delays in production of the iPhone 12 and thus a delayed release data.

Thankfully, they didn’t leave us hanging too long as Apple just announced they’re holding a special event on Tuesday, October 13th, where they’re expected to unveil the new iPhone 12. Apple is running with the “Hi, Speed” tagline.

This event, like the WWDC and Time Flies event, will be completely virtual and therefore most likely prerecorded. Not that I mind as it allows for a more polished unveiling.

This newest iteration of the iPhone, like its predecessors, has seen a few leaks over the past several months that give us a hopeful glimpse at what we would see when it launched. The thing is, these leaks are little more than rumors with the occasional unverified image to back it up.

Rumor has it we’ll see four new iPhones in the 12 lineup. This adds up with Apple’s addition of the Pro line with last year’s well-received 11 Pro. If things shake out, we should see a 5.4-inch 12 mini, 6.1-inch 12, 6.1-inch 12 Pro and 6.7-inch 12 Pro Max.

As you might expect, the mini will be significantly cheaper (starting $649) and the Pro and Pro Max are going to arrive with a hefty price tag (starting $999 and $1099 respectively).

The iPhone 12 is expected to come with 5G support, hence the “Hi, Speed” tagline, a reference to the improved data speed and, I’m sure, processor speed upgrade.

You’ll be able to live stream the Hi, Speed event on the Apple website or the Apple TV app. It’ll probably show up several other places as well, like YouTube.

We’ll report on the unveiling once it happens next Tuesday, but despite the heavy rumor mill, you can count on the fact that they will unveil the iPhone 12.
