Google has just brought a bunch of new AI features into Search. The biggest one of note is a call feature that helps gain more information on your behalf.

This new feature has Google AI calling a business to glean more information for potential customers. This means you can let Google call a pet groomer or an auto shop and sniff out things such as open appointments and pricing on their services. This is especially useful if that info isn’t readily available online.

Clearly this new tool goes beyond just convenience because for some it might be a necessity. Those who suffer from severe anxiety might find it nearly impossible to pick up the phone and call a business to get their questions answered. This is true also for those with a disability that makes it impossible for them to talk. This is a real problem when they need the services that the company offers.

Here’s how you can start using AI-powered calling through Google. Search for a local business and if it says “Have AI check pricing” directly under the listing for the business in search results, then this feature is activated for that company. Businesses have the option to opt out when managing their page.

If this is a pet groomer (an example that Google is using) then you’ll have to answer some questions before Google AI makes the phone call. You’ll have to provide answers on what kind of pet you have (dog, cat, etc.) and the breed. Once you’ve answered the quick questionnaire they’ll call and gather information for you.

When the business picks up the phone, Google AI will announce that this is an automated system calling. They will ascertain the information requested and will provide the answers to the user via text.

This AI agentic calling feature is rolling out to all users in the U.S. now. Those who’ve signed up for Google AI Pro or AI Ultra have higher limits of calls available to them.
