It seems every year Samsung’s new smartphone is leaked ahead of any official announcement by the tech giant and this year is no different. The new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have both leaked with photos and detailed specifications. The only difference is this time it was leaked by Samsung itself.
Just yesterday the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge popped up on Samsung’s developer site. While everything has been speculation up to this point, even the name, numerous guesses have been confirmed and unexpected features revealed. 
First the name is confirmed to be “Galaxy S7” and “Galaxy S7 Edge.” No real surprise here but at least we know they’re not going with something like “Universe 1” but are sticking with the Galaxy brand of phones.
The 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge has added functionality in the form of what they’re calling “Wide Type” or “Edge Single Plus” mode. The Wide Type panels allow extra functions to be accessed from the curved edge of the screen. While the idea of swiping from the edge to reveal more features isn’t new to Galaxy smartphones the Wide Type is.
Currently Galaxy smartphones feature the Edge Single or Narrow Type feature which is extremely limited compared to what the Edge Single Plus looks like it can do. With Edge Single Plus you can now look at things like news widgets, a compass and any other number of things you’d like to see with only a quick swipe of your finger.
Now Samsung just today removed any mention of the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge from the developer site. In fact, they removed it while this article was being written. Maybe this was an intentional leak to get people talking or someone’s getting fired. My money’s on the former.
Samsung is set to officially announce and release the S7 and S7 Edge at a press event on February 21st. So let’s see if this data holds up.
