If Apple CEO, Tim Cook, is to be believed as a creditable source, we will not be seeing any product resembling a converged iPad and Macbook. 
He recently spoke with the Irish Independent about his feelings on the matter, “We feel strongly that customers are not really looking for a converged Mac and iPad. Because what that would wind up doing, or what we’re worried would happen, is that neither experience would be as good as the customer wants.”
He went on to shatter any hope of a “MacPad” by convincing us that they could never fully achieve the highest quality of both, “So we want to make the best tablet in the world and the best Mac in the world. And putting those two together would not achieve either. You’d begin to compromise in different ways.”
So there you have it, once again a Mac rumor quelled by Apple. We will see no hybrid MacPad because, simply put, the Apple CEO just doesn’t see the point.
Just last week Cook questioned the relevance of the PC itself. “I think if you’re looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?”
A lot of this talk has come up when referencing the new iPad Pro, which Cook sees as a 
possible replacement for the standard computer. “Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phone.”
Now lest you think he was knocking any of Ap
ple’s products, he was quick to point out that Macs and PCs are distinctly different, “We don’t regard Macs and PCs to be the same.”
One additional tidbit that you might find interesting: When asked about Apple’s plan for the electric car Cook said, “I don’t have anything to announce about our plans. But I think there’s some significant changes in the automobile industry over the next several years with electrification and autonomous driving. And there’s a need for a focus on user interface. And so I think there’s a lot of changes that will go on there.”
Not a confirmation nor a denial of Apple’s work on an electric car which means – confirmation. If he’s unwilling to even drop a tidbit or smidgen of information it’s safe to assume they are in the very early stages of development despite their recent acquisition of former Tesla engineers.
Sorry Apple fans, no MacPad for you. But if you’re lucky they may still surprise us with an iRobot in the near future.
